i win!

i'd like for you to meet the bane of my existence. le fern:

i used this pattern, and enlarged it by roughly 20% by adding one repeat (27 stitches), and 5 ferns (50 rows). i used 12 skeins of knitpicks wool of the andes in hollyberry on us size 8. the yarn had its ups and downs- it is reasonably soft, quite economical and felts very well. i know it felts well, because i lost count of the number of spit joins i had to do- it was riddled with knots. it destroyed my wooden needles (they are bright pink now), and i could not get it to stop bleeding when i washed it. i washed it in wool-wash about 5 times before soaking it in a vinegar/salt/water solution. i then washed it twice more, and the water never stopped rinsing red.

all in all though, i think it came out beautifully. it was an easy, but engaging pattern. i'm glad i did it in the recipient's favorite color, otherwise it would be awfully hard to part with.

now that i've got the shawl and then blanket out of the way, i can start knitting for fun again. what's that like?

Oh honey I did look at it soon as you mentioned it, I just suck and didn't comment. Or let on to you that I had seen the top of the mountain, and it was good. Bet that's one fabulous, beautiful, wooly red-oozing monkey you're glad to have off your back. Only took like, six months to finish. Damn, girl. You are a rockstar & I luff you.
